Senate Reaches Deal to End U.S. Shutdown
The U.S. Senate made moves to end the government shutdown by advancing a temporary spending bill. The standoff ended Monday as the Democrats accepted a proposal from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that would fund the government through February 8th. McConnell compromised & agreed to address Democratic requests that Congress restore protections against deportation to undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.
The financial markets seemed to express a sigh of relief, with the dollar making a bounce & equity futures extended gains into record territories.
